5 Ways to stick with your goals
Goals can be hard, wait let me re-phrase that, meaningful goals are hard!
After all what is a goal if it has no rewarding and meaningful outcome, and the key word here is 'rewarding'. But in order for a goal to be rewarding, it must first have something meaningful behind it in the first place. For example, deciding to give up on eating out, or buying things you 'want' verses things you 'need' in order to save for a holiday or a home would be a meaningful goal with a rewarding outcome. Now if you were to do those same things, but this time the meaning behind it was "just because" then it's kind of not worth it.
Now that is a very high level example without too much detail, but the point I want to get across is, when you do decide to create a meaningful goal the hardest part is sticking to it!
So with that being said, here are five ways that I have used in the past and continue to use today to help me stick with my goals.
Make sure you write them out!
A goal is always best written down in my view. Why? because it creates a starting point and by writing it out it is the first real immediate action from a concept (i.e. swirling in your head) to reality.
Read it frequently!
Reading your goals frequently not only serves as an affirmation of your goal, but a reminder of what you're trying to achieve. Now the question is what's considered frequent? Personally I would read my goals out at least once a day and normally in the morning, the more the better of course, but don't over do it!
Put it in your phone!
Having your goal close by is another great way to stick with your goals. With most people having smart phones and devices these days it means it is super easy to have it noted down.
BONUS TIP: One time when I had a goal that I really wanted to hit, I took a photo of the written version and set as my wall paper, so every time I checked my phone for emails, texts, or social media it was there lurking in the background as reminder.
Post it on Social Media!
This one is probably one of the harder tips to do because it creates a real sense of vulnerability to it. Posting your goal on a "social media" platform like Facebook or Instagram will feel extremely uncomfortable and as mentioned create a feeling of vulnerability, but this will do one of two things, push you towards sticking to it because now you've made it public and secondly create a sense of accountability.
Share your goals with like-minded people.
If you're not a big "social-media" sharer then this tip is for you! Find a group of friends who have similar goals or mindsets towards achieving goals and create an accountability group, or asked them to have set times to check in on how your goals are going, and vice-versa. The power of a group is really effective and by sharing it with others it can help you stick to it, or even it better fast track it!
